It was nice to be having a relaxing dinner with his family after the hell of Hollywood Week. Surrounded by Katy and his parents, Kris almost felt like he was home again. They accepted and loved him for who he was. He didn't feel that he needed to prove anything to them. In a way, he was relieved that Adam wasn't there. At least now, he could just pretend that he was the same old Kris he'd always been.
"How are you doing?" His mom asked. "You looked so nervous earlier."
"Actually, I was petrified," Kris said, leaning back into the booth. He rubbed his face before dropping his hands into his lap. "It's been a really rough week, but totally worth it. I can't believe I made it through. Adam said it was going to happen."
"Hey," Katy chided, elbowing him lightly in the side. "I've been telling you the same thing."
"You're my wife," Kris said, smiling. He ran the back of his hand down her cheek. "You have to support me. Isn't it in the vows?"
"Something like that," she said, sharing his smile.
Kris took her hand into his lap so he could cradle it with both of his own. "I can't believe we're going live on TV this week. That's gonna be crazy."
"Your mom already made me set the television so that it will record everything," Dad said. "I'm proud of you, son."
"Thanks, Dad. I'm really glad that you all were here today," Kris added, trying not to feel guilty about his earlier doubts regarding them and his expected defeat. "Coming through that door and being able to tell you that I made it was…wow, just amazing."
"We wouldn't have missed it," Katy said, squeezing his hand. "I'm so happy for you."
"I know," Kris said. It took everything he had not to ask her about them. If she was happy because this would change their future, but he was afraid of the answer. He needed to talk about something else. "It's just been a really wild ride all week. Intense all of the time. There were times I wish I could be more like Adam and just take it all in stride. He's so together."
"You're really close to Adam, aren't you?" His mom asked.
"He must be," Katy answered for him. "It's like the twentieth time Kris has mentioned him since we left for dinner." She smiled as if to soften her words. "If Adam was a woman, I think I'd have to be jealous."
"Well, since he's not," Kris said, returning his wife's smile. "You have nothing to worry about."

The party was in full swing when Adam pulled into the driveway of the sprawling house at the end of a cul-de-sac. The owners were friends of friends of acquaintances, but they knew Adam and he was always welcome at their parties. He knew it was because he was pretty, and pretty boys made the older movers-and-shakers closeted Hollywood queens show up. It was all in the game, but they never pressured him to do anything he didn't want to do. As long as he was there having a good time, didn't start any trouble, and kept his mouth shut about who attended, then he could come and go as he pleased.
He first started attending when he was younger and broke. There was plenty of food, drinks and drugs to go around, and if he was lonely there was plenty of sex to go around, too. Later when he was earning a paycheck, he still attended because by then he knew and liked many of the people who were there on a regular basis. It was always like a homecoming when he came through the door.
After checking himself in the mirror, and fixing a stray lock of hair, he headed for the entrance. He knocked and waited to be admitted. The door would be locked anyway. No one was outside. The only hint there might be a party was the cars in the driveway and the sound of muffled music vibrating through the walls to dance in the night air.
"Adam, darling," Doug cried, pulling Adam into an embrace. "It's been so long. Where have you been?"
"Here and there," Adam said, kissing Doug before stepping back. "Everything okay?"
"Same old drama," Doug sighed, waving an effeminate hand in the air. "Somebody is always breaking up, getting together or avoiding the wife. You know how it is," he added with a laugh. "Come in. Help yourself."
"Thanks."
Adam headed straight for the bar that was always set up in the kitchen. He had to reach around a couple making out to get a glass, but they never even noticed. With a shake of his head, he grabbed the bottle of vodka to pour over the ice he was adding with his other hand. The first drink went down in one gulp, the second in two and the third he took with him. The alcohol was sending warmth through his body. He stopped in the doorway to the main living area, letting his gaze sweep over the men that filled the room. Most were people he knew, but there were a few newcomers. They were clearly new boys to Los Angeles, to the scene, who were probably hoping to score the attention of someone important or they were like Adam once was, desperate to fit in, to party or just to eat.
They didn't get a second look from him. He wouldn't be what they wanted, and they weren't what he wanted. Not tonight. Then he saw him across the room. Adam's tongue darted between his lips as he took in the young brunette with a slim build encased in tight jeans and tank top. The young man was just what Adam was hungry for and from the slightly jaded look on his face; Adam knew he wasn't new to the scene. So there would be no heavy drama to deal with when it was time to go their separate ways. He kept staring, occasionally taking a sip of his drink, until the object of his attention turned to return his gaze. A smile was flashed Adam's way as the brunette's eyes took a leisurely stroll down Adam's body, hesitating for a second longer on Adam's bulge, before returning to meet his eyes again. There was appreciation in those eyes, and an invitation, before they looked away.
The game was on.

Kris had always liked the way that Katy fit against his side. She was comfortable there with his arm around her shoulder. They walked in synchronicity, had since the moment they'd met in high school. He could only credit God for getting them together. He felt that it was a blessing to have found someone so early in his life.
"What are you thinking about?" Katy asked.
"Us," Kris replied, stopping to peer into a jewelry store display. After dinner, they had decided to walk around the mall area next to the hotel. It was late, but Kris wasn't ready to wind down yet. They were together and that was what was important. Their emotional connection was just as important as the physical they were anticipating when they returned to Katy's room.
"What do you like?"
"The jewelry? Katy said, leaning closer to look at the extravagant selection. "It's all pretty…and expensive."
"Maybe everything is going to start to change for us." He kissed her cheek. "If it does then I can give you the things you want."
"I just want you. You know that," Katy said. "This stuff is pretty, but there's no reason to think about spending before we even know if it's going to happen."
"Don't you think I can do it?"
"Of course, I do." She stepped back so they were facing each other. "I've always believed in you, and I hope this comes true for you."
"What about you? Do you want it?"
"I just don't want to lose us," Katy said, returning to his arms. "That's all I care about."
"You won't," Kris whispered, hugging her tight. "I'll always be here for you."

Adam took a deep drag from the pipe, held onto the smoke before exhaling in slow motion, enjoying the feel of it leaving his body. There wasn't anything that couldn't be sensual if you gave it a chance, he thought. He was floating in a heady fog that made it easy to block everything out except this moment. He handed the pipe and lighter to the man lying on the couch with him. He hadn't given his name or asked for one in return. This wasn't a beginning. It was just a way to give his body the release it needed.
"Good shit."
"Not bad," Adam replied, taking back the pipe, letting his fingers caress the back of the other man's hand. It was time to move things up a notch. His cock was already stirring in his jeans. So far, the pickup wasn't doing much to help. The only thing stimulating him was seeing someone else in the other man's movements.
Adam itched to run his hands through the messy dark curls that reminded him of Kris. It was so close, but it wasn't real. He lit the bowl, taking the husky smoke deep into his lungs again. Laying his head against the armrest, he finally let his fingers loose in those crisp brunette curls.
The other man shifted so that he was kneeling above Adam.
"I'm going to make you feel so good," he promised, sliding down Adam's zipper.
I hope so, Adam thought. With his eyes nearly closed, he watched his cock slowly disappear into the brunette's mouth. It wasn't so hard to pretend that it was Kris sucking him off. Letting his fantasy unwind, Adam allowed himself to get lost in the sensual feelings overtaking his body.
~~~~~
They were alone. Kris threw his t-shirt on a chair before sitting on the edge of the bed to take off his shoes. Katy had taken something slinky from her suitcase before heading into the bathroom. His body was already humming for his wife. It seemed forever since they were able to be together. So much had happened since they last held each other. Tonight would be good for bringing them closer, and erasing the doubts that kept making their demands on his attention. He just wished that Katy understood his dreams the way that Adam did.
"Baby," Katy said, sashayed into the room. The pink negligee she wore clung to her every curve sending lust crashing through Kris's system. "Have you missed me?" She stopped in front of him, running her fingers through his hair. "Because I've missed you."
"Yeah, I've missed you," Kris said, running his hands up her sides. Instead of standing up to kiss her, he knelt on the bed, turning his face up to meet her lips. "I'm so glad you're here tonight."
"Me, too," Katy whispered, cupping his face in her hands as she teased his mouth with her tongue. "You deserve an award for getting through this week."
"Katy," Kris pulled back. "Are you happy? About this?"
"Shush, it's not the time to think about it."
All it would have taken was a simple yes; something to let him know that she was there for him, for all the changes that were coming their way. Except she didn't say that she was happy for him, or that she was proud of him. She didn't want to talk about what would happen if he made it big in the music industry. Not like he and Adam did almost every night before they went to sleep. But Katy was right; they were together so it wasn't the time to think about it.
Pushing everything else aside, he returned his wife's kiss as he crawled backward on the bed. She followed him, covering him with her body as their lips played an old familiar tune. This moment was all that was important, as she moved down his body, leaving a trail of kisses over his chest, as her hands were busy undoing his jeans. It wasn't the time to think of the competition. No matter what happened, the future would work itself out.
"Lift up," Katy commanded, as she tugged his jeans over his hips and down his legs.
Katy was doing everything right. It was time for him to return the caresses to bring his wife to the edge, but tonight he wanted to be selfish. He pulled her down so that he could kiss her, but when she moved to slide off him, he pushed her lower instead.
"Please," he whispered.
He told himself that it was because he was already so on edge, that he needed a release so he could concentrate on her pleasure for the rest of the night.
"I've been thinking about you all week," he said, caressing her upturned face. "I'm just so eager that I don't want the first time to be rushed." It was a good explanation and when she smiled, he knew it would be okay.
Liar.
Katy pushed him back on the bed, kissed him before starting a return journey over his heated flesh. It felt so good. Kris lay back, closing his eyes as he let himself go. This wasn’t the time to think. Not when he was soaring through a lust induced haze. He shouldn't be thinking of the competition, of Adam, of anything. Only of the sensations that were rampaging through his body. Kris moaned as Katy took him into her mouth. He grabbed at the bed sheets next to him and let himself be lost.
No, it wasn't the time for Adam's face to dance through his mind. But it did.
